The launch of the 2014 IES Battle of the Books!!
Educators of the Erie 2-Chautuaqua-Cattaraugus BOCES region have been reading and discussing new books over the past two years as the NYS Curriculum Modules have been adopted and adapted in schools. We've used Edmodo and Twitter to share thoughts about those books and others that connect to build recommended text lists. At the same time, we have been discussing how to implement GRAIR (Guided Reading and Accountable Independent Reading) and fostering a culture of reading for students. All of this bubbled in the background of our work until one "tweet" led to the creation of the ultimate challenge:
That tweet had us investigating the Morning News Tournament of Books which led to the School Library Journal Battle of the Books - both of which are the inspiration for our own regional Battle of the Books!
Follow along with the fun on Twitter using #IESBoB - we'll post updates on the challenge as well as fun reading trivia! Your classroom can also weigh in by writing their own review on any of the books participating in the challenge which will be published in the Peanut Gallery. See the Classroom Resources page for more ideas on how you can be involved!
