Classroom Resources
Write your own book critique for one of the contenders…or a book that you think should have been a contender!
Review online book critiques with students – sites like the NY Times Book Review or the Spaghetti Book Club (which features student written reviews) for examples. Scholastic also has a great site “Writing with Writers” that provides a step by step approach to writing a book review – complete with examples.
As a class, develop a set of criteria for a powerful book review based upon their reading. Use the class criteria to have students provide feedback to one another on their reviews. Use the form below to submit a student written review to be posted on the Peanut Gallery blog.

Create a personal library…and share your “Good Reads”
Have students create an online library shelf of the books they have read using a site like GoodReads. This blog post shows how a high school teacher uses GoodReads and this post shares six great ideas for using it in any classroom.
We love GoodReads as a way to share and discuss what we are reading – so we created a group for the IES Battle of the Books!! You can check out the bookshelf of all the books, the discussions and more here.
Challenge your students to read something new!!
As readers, once we find a genre or an author we like - we tend to stick with it!! Encourage your students to check out the brackets, watch for the winners and expand their reading horizons!! The "BINGO" boards linked here might be an interesting incentive!
